25 luglio 1929: il Giglio di Firenze diventa ufficiale
Il Giglio accompagna la storia di Firenze fin dall'XI secolo.
Le sue origini restano un mistero, ma si pensa derivi dalla stilizzazione dell'Iris florentina, il giaggiolo bianco che un tempo colorava le nostre campagne.
Sapevate che in origine era bianco in campo rosso? Furono i Guelfi, per distinguersi dai Ghibellini, a introdurre i colori che conosciamo oggi.
Dal 1251 il rosso in campo bianco è diventato lo stemma definitivo della città.
Un simbolo che ha attraversato secoli di storia senza mai piegarsi: nemmeno Napoleone riuscì a imporne uno nuovo nel 1811.
I fiorentini scelsero semplicemente di ignorare l'ordine e restare fedeli al proprio Giglio.
Il 25 luglio 1929 arriva il riconoscimento ufficiale da parte dello Stato italiano: "uno scudo ovato d'argento, il giglio aperto e bottonato di rosso".
