Lennon, admite que la canción de alguna forma contiene elementos de un poema: ''The Walrus and the Carpenter(Lewis Carroll's), y mientras se encontraba en el piano:
'' The first line was written on one acid trip one weekend, the second line on another acid trip the next weekend, and it was filled in after I met Yoko.''
Existe un verdadero sistema de alusiones y simbologías en tan extraordinaria canción lírica, donde las imágenes de puro surrealismo y psicodelia, se interpretan en alegorías.
En la canción se menciona un texto de su niñez que su amigo Pete Shotton colabora, es quien le ayudó con el texto; es el siguiente=''Yellow matter custard, green slop pie/Al mixed together wit a dead dog's eye...''.

A John Lennon, siempre le encantó la lírica oculta y multisignificante de Bob Dylan, y aquí se encuentra en sus anchas con tanta imágen sensorial e impresionante.
