''Here I give you my Key and My Seal; One opens, one locks: Use both with Understanding.''
(Eugenius Philalethes, Lumen de Lumine, 1651)
The "Stone" of the Alchemists contains the "mercury"... although that same Mercury is not the ''Philosopher's Stone''; it is the Way, the Path that leads to its meeting.
The philosopher's stone is the "omnium remedium" and universal panacea like Donus Dei or Gift of God. The stone is something that is known as Tinctura and elixir, there is a White stone and a Red stone.
Sulphur is similar to celestial fire and corresponds to active, fixed, warm, dry and masculine elements.
Mercury represents passive, volatile, cold and moist = feminine elements. This primeval moist substance is born from the "Seed of All Things".
Salt then is the principle of active embodiment that binds the bonds of sulfur and mercury.
''... Stone is the first matter of metals and, therefore, is ahead of All of them, including GOLD; and although its origin is in them, or is born of their destruction, we must not say that it is a later production, but on the contrary; it is prior to them, since it is the matter from which they have been formed. The Secret of Art consists in knowing how to extract that first matter from metals, that metallic germ that must vegetate in the fecundity of the water of the Philosophical Sea."
( Limojon de Saint-Didier, Le Triomphe hermétique, Paris)
"It is not this common worldly gold, nor Silver, nor Mercury, nor the Sun, nor antimony, nor nitro, nor sulphur, nor anything of the kind, but it is the spirit of gold and mercury which the Philosophers call the Prime and Second matter, proper and unique to Nature."
(Basil Valentine, Azoth, part I)
"Oh, how precious and magnificent this water is! For without it the work could not be perfected. It is also called the Ship of Nature, the womb, the womb, the receptacle of the tincture, the earth and its nurse; it is the fountain in whichthe King and Queen bathe, and the mother who must be placed and sealed on the womb of her son who is the Sun, who has risen and proceeds from her, and whom she has begotten."
(Artegio: Secret Book of the Occult Art and the Philosopher's Stone)
Nigredo or melanosis is the color acquired in the process=Crow's head, when the mixture rots within the 'primordial chaos' of the oven=cosmos.
In it the separatio or separation of the Tria-prima=Salt-Sulphur-Mercury takes place.
The Albedo is the Swan, since from the Leucosis arises from its "black mass" a "white dot" when purification comes into action.
Highly recommended the careful observation of the celestial telescope and the shapes that the macrocosm reflects =''As above, so below''/forms of fire and spirals of the athanor. Allthese alloys of a metallic nature have their analogy and representativeness in the macrocosm and microcosm.
The vast macrocosm conceives of God as immanent in the transcendent, since the cosmos dwells in the Divinity without disassociating itself from it.
It is possible to conceive of it as a totalitarian organism and alive in unity.
''Wherefore if ye consider well the Sayings and Precepts of the Philosophers, and understand their Mystical Sence, ye shall come to all the Secrets of the Divine Chymick.''
(Bernardo El Trevisano)
This unity is intrinsic to the divinity when the adept seeks light in it, through the perfection of metals.
The crowned serpent is the symbol of the catalytic agent by which the conjunction of the two antagonistic and complementary principles = Sun-Moon can be realized.
"The things that are sacred are revealed only to men who are sacred. The profane cannot learn these things until they have been initiated into the Mysteries of Knowledge."
(Hippocrates, IV, 642: Law 5)
